Well boys, what would you like to carve on your pumpkins? Tyler: A scary face. Boyd: Um, a scary face. Dad: Are you sure, don't you want an owl, or a moon, or a bat? Boys: No! We want scary faces!
So Dad goes on line and finds some templates: bats, owls, scary faces, etc. The boys each picked one. When the templates were printed, we pinned them to the pumpkins and used pins to trace out the shapes. Tyler and I went to work on his with a knife...
...and this is what we created.
Knives are much to primitive for some folks, though. I mean, after all, it is the 21st century!
And here's Boyd's scary little pumpkin head. The artistry is spectacular, however, I think he's a bit confused. He doesn't know if he should be scary or happy or excited. Which really reflects the mood swings of the boys as we waded through this little activity. I sure love my little pumpkins (of the giddy little boy variety)!

Oh how funny! We have a picture of Ryan using his dremmel tool too this year! It took too long so he went back to a knife.(; So sometimes primitive does trump modernity!
Love the jack-o-lanterns!

I too had to chuckle on this post. Looks like fun. I wish I still had some little ones to help with carving pumpkins. I think I would stick to carving with a knife, though.
