St. Anthony Sand Dunes

Who are these masked bandits?!  You guessed it: Keith and Tyler on our Idaho dunes trip this past weekend.  This picture was taken after two hours out on the sand, riding and stopping to play every so often.  Keith is just getting warmed up for the day.  He thoroughly enjoyed this as it was like stepping back into childhood.

Kade and Boyd, ready for takeoff.  Brave little buddies.

I enjoyed being passenger in a RZR-4 a few times.  That's how I smuggled my camera out onto the dunes - otherwise not a real smart thing to do as unsecured items are very easily tossed overboard!  Anyway, here are some views from the front seat.  The next three are my favorite as they show what it's like headed down into a bowl and back out again.  You get a similar feeling in your stomach as when on a roller coaster - weeeee!

 Down...

 ...around the bowl...

 ...and back up again!
There are hundreds of these bowls.  One could ride for hours and not run out of places to explore.

Back at our base camp, a nice little rv park at one end of the dunes.  In the background, Brandon, our trusty guide and leader, tuning up his bike for another go-around.  Take a look at the tires on this quad.  The front are narrow with normal tread; the rear tires are slick with scoop-like projections called paddles.  This gives you good forward grab and easy sideways sliding.  All the bikes and quads had them.

Monte didn't go out on the dunes, but he sure enjoyed sitting on the machine and vibrating his lips to make motor noises.

 Bbq lunch.

Ready to go again.  That's Brandon on the left, Keith on the right, Tiffany behind him, and then Kevin.
These four have ridden since they were kids and it shows.  They have a comfort level with the machines, maneuvering, and speed, that can only be developed when you're young.  Dawn and I had fun too, just at half speed ;o)

I must be getting old and grandmotherly -- this looks fun but scary to me. (Heard of too many accidents, I guess.) Glad you all had a good time (and made it home safely!). ;-))
