Thanksgiving Travels: Day 3

Monday morning we woke to a whole lot of giggling and thumping coming from the slumber party in the living room.  The boys were wide-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to take on the day.  Hungry too, as they gobbled down a scrumptious breakfast of scrambled eggs and waffles.  Again, it was hard to say good-bye, but we climbed back in the car and headed southwest this time to San Francisco.

Scenery near Chico, CA.  Picture an enormous bald eagle sitting on that log in the river, because he was there when we passed by the first time.  By the time we turned around and came back he was already gone.  Would have been cool to watch him take flight.

Our trip into down town San Francisco was quite exhilarating for this country bumpkin.  The freeway continued to widen and the the exits became an amazing labyrinth of over and under passes, cars rushing in all directions, until finally, as we approached the Bay Bridge, everything stopped.  Well, almost everything.  We were thankful for the car pool lane which moved us quickly to the front of the line, over the bridge, and right into the heart of the city.  We were also thankful for GPS which lead us right to Bob and Suzanne's front door.

And here was our welcome to San Francisco...

...Bob, with his big smile and cheerful greeting, jumped in the driver's seat and took us on an  evening tour...

...where we witnessed a breath-taking sunset on the beach of the great Pacific. I love the ocean. I love to watch the waves roll in, to hear the mighty crashing of the water. It makes me feel small. I suppose it's similar to the feeling people have when they view the jagged peaks of the Tetons for the first time. Something about them just makes you stand and stare.

I took too many pictures, but I just couldn't help myself!

Another breath-taking view of the famous Golden Gate Bridge.  We did not go over the bridge that evening, but would cross it three times before our visit was over.

Tyler and Boyd feeling the strands of steel that make up the bridges main cable.

And to finish the day, a delicious Thai dinner with Bob and Suzanne!  A truly inspiring couple.  We learned a lot from them and sure enjoyed our time together.

I love the ocean too, and find it's one of the main things I miss about being in California. It's rejuvenating somehow. I'm so glad you got to take this trip. (And not just so we could see the pictures!) Great to see Bob and Suzanne again!
